Travelling with the lantern

Jo Douglas - Shadow Puppetry

Jo is the lantern puppeteer; designing, making and performing with the beautiful and intricate shadow puppets. Jo comes from a background of environmental education and nature connection. This feeds into her puppet work which has strong environmental themes.

Ian Douglas - Storyteller

Ian has been telling stories professionally for over 20 years. He performs at schools, festivals and events across the uk. With a background in street theatre, Ian’s work is engaging and energetic.

Gary ‘Gacko’ Bridgens

Showman, storyteller and songwriter Gacko has 30 years of experience as a freelance performer at events, festivals, and pantomimes. Gacko acted as an essential outside eye during the development process of the Magic Lantern, and is now performing as the lantern musician and occasional Storyteller.

Joshua Simpson - designer & maker

Since graduating in Fine Arts, Josh has continued to develop his creative practice in collaborative design and making for performance. The rest of the crew are very grateful that he decided to return from touring with a vintage tricycle to set up the RagTag arts venue in Kendal. There he built the Magic Lantern.

Tim Nilsson

Talented young musician Tim regularly joins the Lantern crew, bringing his guitar to add beautiful and haunting tunes to the stories. We are hoping that the Tutors at the Leeds Conservatoire where Tim is studying from next year will let him out to play with us!
